Tech student held for trafficking

Hitesh Burman is a final-year mechanical engineering student of Bhopal Engineering College.

KOLKATA: A final-year mechanical engineering student of Bhopal Engineering College was arrested by the Bidhannagar South police for allegedly using Facebook and Twitter to entrap women from Kolkata and traffic them to Bhopal.

Once there, the accused would confine them in a room. Cops suspect he was part of a trafficking gang, though the accused himself clai-med he wanted to marry these women.

The accused — identified as Hitesh Burman (21) — was arrested from his hostel mess in Bhopal and a woman from Sukantanagar in Salt Lake was rescued from his clutches after being confined for over a month. Cops said that a few of Burman’s friends are also suspected of playing a role in this gang. The cops are also likely to visit Ranchi
