Police Smash Cyber Crime Ring Targeting Foreigners

Police have arrested 92 Chinese and Taiwanese cyber crime suspects after allegedly forming a syndicate targeting other foreign nationals based in Indonesia.

West Java Police raided three separate residences in an elite residential complex in Surabaya on Saturday, July 29.

The international cyber crime syndicate suspects were flown to the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police the following day. During the flight to Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang the suspects were closely guarded by the Special Task Force of the Criminal Investigation Police.

Susatyo Purnomo, Head of the Surabaya Task Force, said the discovery of the 92 suspects is part of a larger operation between police in Bali, Jakarta and Surabaya. Launched by the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, the task force will continue investigations into the suspects.

“They can obtain up to Rp.600 billion (US$45.02 million) just from one crime scene in Surabaya. Within several month, they succeeded in getting Rp.5.9

Will rope in experts to deal with cyber crime, says Bengaluru top cop

BENGALURU: New police chief T Suneel Kumar conceded on Monday that the force is ill-equipped to deal with increasing cybercrimes, but said the problem was not unique to the country’s IT capital.

“Cybercrime is increasing across the world and in the country too. The police department is establishing a separate cyber cell in each police station across the state to tackle these cases. There needs to be renewed focus on training,” Kumar said soon after taking charge.

He said: “Special attention will be given to cyber security and we”ll train our personnel. We’ll rope in experts from various fields to help us.”

Stating that he had no clue about being named the commissioner, Kumar said he’ll work closely with all additional commissioners in-charge of the city to maintain law and order.

Sorry celebs, I don’t want your autograph (how about a like or retweet?)

Wonder Woman was my first. She was expressing her opinions on politics, and I stopped to pay attention. Afterwards, I followed her, though she probably didn’t know it. I spoke up, she liked what I had to say. The rest is history.

There’d be plenty more after her, but you never forget your first like.

It isn’t as creepy as it sounds. Legitimately, over the course of regular Facebook conversation, I got a ‘like’ on one of my comments from Linda Carter. See, I followed her page, not her. I say ‘legitimately’ as though there’s a council of ethics that approves the level of cyber-stalking considered okay.

Maybe there should be. You can’t just go begging for likes; you have to say something worth liking, or retweeting. Otherwise you’re just stalking right? Who would even be on that committee? I nominate George Takei to lead it, simply because I don’t have his social

Sextortion: Before you get naughty online, here’s what you need to know

Sextortion is on the rise in India, and there are several reports floating online that will vouch for it. While the term has a broader meaning, the underlying truth remains how a person (known/unknown) can coerce you into doing something by threatening to release sexual images or information. Men are said to be easy targets of sextortion.

It’s as simple as – You come across a beautiful woman on social media. You accept the request and start chatting. The friendship grows and you take it a step ahead into your virtual world – Skype. Soon you start with your

City to have Cyber Crime Police Station soon

The city police would soon be able to deal with cyber crimes more effectively than ever as the Vijayawada Police Commissionerate is going to have a full-fledged Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS).

The demand for a special police station to deal with increasing cases of cyber crime has been there since the bifurcation of the State, and the government accorded permissions to establish one a few months ago.

The police station will be headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police and will have a dedicated team of two inspectors, four sub-inspectors, six head constables and 20 constables, according to official sources.

To make the team technically stronger, the selection of personnel is done based on their educational background.

The SIs roped in for the special station are engineering graduates.

Also, according to officials, the entire team has been trained in various levels of cyber laws, cyber security, cyber forensics and cyber
