Rajarhat: Police arrested a 25-year-old man in Rajarhat on Tuesday night on the charge of creating fake Facebook profiles of a woman and posting her objectionable photographs and videos.

Officers of the cyber crime police station in Salt Lake picked up Sheikh Wasim Haider based on the woman’s complaint.

He had befriended the woman in last January and both got into a relationship, the police claimed.

Shortly after they broke up, the man apparently threatened to post her pictures, an officer of Bidhannagar commissionerate said.

In her complaint, the woman said she came across two fake profiles with her objectionable pictures and videos.

“We tracked him down through the IP address of his smartphone that was used to create the profile and upload the pictures,” he said.

He has been booked under various IPC sections, including 354D (stalking), 500 (defamation), and 507 (criminal intimidation) and under the IT act.
