Men Being Targeted In Facebook Blackmail Sex Scam – Sextortion

Men are being targeted for blackmail on Facebook and local police are saying use common sense.

The East Algoma OPP is warning the public about a scam that seems to be targeting men on social media like Facebook, dating sites or pornographic websites.

Sextortion is where people are lured into an online relationship.

As the relationship builds, victims are encouraged to use the computer’s camera and the scammer will coerce the victim to perform a sexual act on webcam.

The victim is later advised that the event was recorded and to pay up or the video will be released publicly or sent to a list of friends.

Police say protect yourself by denying any requests to perform an illicit act over the internet and disable your webcam or any other camera when you are not using it.

If you think you or someone you know has been a victim of fraud, call police or report online

‘Sextortion’ — blackmail often targeting teens — will be a crime in California

SACRAMENTO — The FBI has called it the single-largest growing threat to children on the internet, but until recently sexual extortion — in which predators use sexually explicit images as blackmail and demand sex or more images instead of money — was not a standalone crime anywhere in the country.

But this week California became the fifth state to make it a felony to blackmail people with the threat of distributing explicit images of them. Only adults will be prosecuted under Sen. Connie Leyva’s Senate Bill 500, which Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law Thursday. Utah, Texas, Alabama and Arkansas passed similar laws this year. California’s law takes effect in January.

“We are just saying once again to women, ‘We stand with you and we will protect you,’” Leyva said in an interview Friday.

Webcam sex pics leads to doubling of ‘sextortion’ blackmail cases in …

Sextortion, or webcam blackmail, is when criminals use the identities of attractive women – who may have been coerced into these actions themselves – to befriend victims online. They then persuade the victims to perform sexual acts in front of their webcam, record them and then threaten to share images with their friends and family unless they receive payment.

The number of cases reported to police has more than doubled between 2015 and 2016, reaching 1,250 last year. So far this year there have been more than 700 cases.

The National Crime Agency says the true number of sextortion cases could be even higher, as so many go unreported.

“We are keeping this issue on the public radar, first and foremost … making all intelligence packages are collated and gathered together to fully exploit all opportunities to put people before judicial systems,” David Jones, head of the NCA’s anti-kidnap and extortion unit, told

Gardai urge children and young people to ‘Say No to ‘sextortion’ and digital blackmail

GARDAI have urged children and young people to ‘Say No to ‘sextortion’ and digital blackmail attempts by online perverts.

Launching a new awareness campaign it was revealed that ‘Sextortion’ is one of the fastest growing crimes in Ireland and detectives have warned of a marked rise in web cam blackmail cases.

It sees criminals grooming children and young people through social media and then deceiving victims into undressing or taking part in sex acts for computer cameras.

The work of organised crime groups mostly based overseas, ‘sextortion’ involves criminals getting to know their victims online.

Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll of the Special Crime Operations (SCO) said: “The Garda Síochána is launching a “Say No” campaign which represents its participation in a new campaign against online sexual coercion and extortion of children that is led by Europol.

Sextortion: How Hackers Blackmail Young Girls into Performing Sexual Acts

Imagine you are a modern teenager. Facebook, Instagram, Kik, and Snapchat have been around for almost as long as you have been able to read. These are the conduits to your world. You have been carefully cultivating your digital identity for as long as you have been building your real life one.

Then, one day, a message from a stranger announces itself with a ping.

“I hacked your Facebook if you don’t show me your tits, I will set this as your profile picture.”

It’s a link to a photo of you naked. A picture you had hidden on your laptop, that you thought only you knew about.

Then—

“You have 15 minutes.

“Pussy too girl.

“You don’t have a choice. If I don’t see your tits by ten everyone will see your pussy. Don’t make me do this… I’ll leave you alone once you send.”

Your entire world is about to implode. You

‘Sextortion’ gangs blackmail 30 teenagers a day by luring them into webcam sex acts using fake women’s profiles

Teenagers trapped in webcam sex stings are being blackmailed by foreign “sextortion gangs”.

At least 30 Britons a day fall for the webcam sex scams. Some British victims of African gangs have committed suicide, a Mirror investigation reveals today. Police said: “We just see the tip of the iceberg.”

At least four victims have killed themselves after webcam blackmailers tricked them into performing online sex acts.

The “sextortionists”, often based thousands of miles away in Africa or Asia, use stolen pictures and fake profiles to con people into thinking they are having genuinely intimate one-on-one video calls.

These are recorded and victims are told footage of their sex session will be made public and sent to friends and family unless they send cash.

One teenager stung by an Ivory Coast gang told his blackmailer after being online for just 100 minutes: “I’d rather go and shoot myself, you f***ing trash making people do this.”
