Blackpool insurance firm in cyber crime seminar

With 2017 being a significant year for cyber attacks world wide a Blackpool company has warned that firms might need to consider specialist cover.

Waterloo Road-based Chadwick Insurances, founded by John Chadwick in 1980, hosted an event to discuss cyber risks to businesses.

Attendees included business leaders from solicitors, accountants, management consultants, IT specialists, risk management specialists, property managers, estate agents, financial advisers and plumbing and heating engineering companies.

Gareth Chadwick said: “Any business that holds or processes sensitive data or is reliant on computer technology is at risk of uninsured losses.

“Dealing with cyber related incidents has not only a direct monetary impact but also ties up a business in dealing with potentially affected customers and regulators.

TORRINGTON The Miles 4 Moe Foundation will present its eighth annual 5K Walk/Run to be held on Sunday, Sept. 17. The foundation continues the legacy of Emil “Moe” Renzullo, by supporting organizations such as Camp MOE that provide an outdoor camp experience to children with and without disabilities. The foundation also supports families who have a child diagnosed with cancer, as well as hospitals and organizations that treat these children.

The Harvest Fest 5K will start and finish at Camp MOE (1145 Brandy Hill Road, Torrington) and consists of paved and gravel roads with rolling hills and fall

Cyber Crime Focus for Taste of Staffordshire Seminar

Food drink businesses from across the county can learn how to protect themselves from cyber crime at a Stoke-on-Trent seminar in June.

Being held at Titanic Brewery in Middleport on June 20th (12pm-4pm), the free Taste of Staffordshire event has been organised by Destination Staffordshire and NFU Mutual’s Stone Agency. It will feature presentations from NFU Mutual Commercial Development Specialist (Retail and Wholesale) Frank Woods and Internet Central Head of Sales Scott James.

Frank Woods said: “Cyber crime is a growing threat to all businesses and an attack could have dire consequences.
“The Office for National Statistics estimates there were 5.8 million incidents in England and Wales in 2015/16, which represents a direct financial loss of £36m a year to UK businesses, according to the British Retail Consortium.

Cyber crime seminar

NCI Technologies and Lloyds Bank are collaborating to host a special seminar on cyber security next month.

Anti-bullying seminar drives home message

“Tweet others how you wanted to be tweeted,” Worcester County District Attorney Office’s School and Community Outreach Educator, Eileen Kneeland told those who attended an anti-bullying program at the First Congregational Church of Holden last week.

Kneeland speaks to students, parents, teachers, administrators and community based organizations all over Worcester County to educate on bullying, cyberbullying, harassment and cyber safety. Her program discussed the definitions of bullying, what one can do if they are being bullied or witness bullying, and the role trusted adults should take in the matter.

Bullying is the repeated act of physical, verbal, emotional, or cyber attacks that create a hostile environment for the victim. According to the law, acts of bullying need to be recorded three times, but Kneeland said it is important for victims to speak out on the first occurrence.
