Revealed: how nearly half of teenagers fall victim to cyber-bullying

Almost half of teenagers have been victims of cyber-bullying and their parents are worryingly ignorant about their internet use.

Research by the University of Buckingham and Sir John Cass’s Foundation reveals adults significantly underestimate the extent to which their children are bullied, or act as bullies, online.

Their report, Beyond The School Gates, shows that 53 per cent of teenagers reported that their photograph had been posted online to embarrass them, but only 22.1 per cent of parents thought this had happened to their child.

More than 300 teenagers aged between 13 to 18, and 130 parents, had detailed interviews for the research.

Dr Masa Popovac, senior psychologist at the university, said: “This shows a wide discrepancy between teenagers’ online behaviours and experiences and parental awareness.”

A man has been arrested after police released photos of a four-year-old girl spotted in a child abuse video on the Dark Web.

The girl’s mother and grandparents alerted police hours after German authorities took the unusual step of sharing images of the young victim in a last ditch attempt to identify her.

Police said she was subjected to “serious sexual abuse” between October last year and July this year

Vile pictures of her suffering were uploaded to the Dark Web by her tormentor, which were reportedly so horrific they left long-serving officers seriously distressed.

Chief prosecutor Georg Ungefuk from the Central Office for Combating Cyber Crime said: “(The man arrested) is a German citizen and is being questioned.

Someone You Know May Be a Victim of Sextortion

One of the most precious things two people can share is trust. In new relationships, though, it’s often the case that the person we see isn’t the actual person in front of us, but a construction of our hopeful imagination. We’re eager to trust, and everyone has had the experience of doing so with someone who turns out, in the end, to be unworthy. When this happens, secrets we’ve shared, including our bodies, feel misspent. And if those secrets include intimate photos given to a romantic partner or anyone else, we feel especially exposed. And we should: An increasing number of people, from teenagers through millennials, are finding themselves victimized by others threatening to publish compromising photos unless they get what
